I have jst completed a series entitled Urban Extraction by lcotterall. In the past sometimes I have been discouraged from what was termed the overuse of the skewing, distortion and warping tools. I have always been fascinated to see the results and am even now more so. This series was supposed to be created with a theme. Initially, my Professor said that my idea to have a theme using Utility Poles and Power Lines did not seem that exciting. As you can see I believe I have proved her wrong:
Ttile: Urban Power (this is made with three layers of photos)
Title: Archetype of a Lunch Box has three layers and two photos. The backgound photo was a closeup of a pine branches overlapping some powerlines. Not interesting? The whole class loved this one. (I almost peepeed my panties when I noticed this old car parked on a side street).
I also liked this variation of Urban Power I call
The Dark Tower
Title:... where the wind blows... Utility Poles and Power Lines aren't interesting? This has two layers of photos, using the unpopular (in some circles) distortion and warping tools.
This Urban City Jungle has two layers and two photos. The background is a medium close up of a power pole with some extended wires and bushes in the background, overlayed with a close up of an Iris (flower).
Then I changed direction when my professor said my theme could be on the abstract results of my composites. I especially liked this ...rain with a View (pun intended).
You will never guess what I photographed to come up with this Aquatic Zoo. There was Nothing liquid or aquatic in the photos, not even the fish( that was a photo I had taken of a ceramic fish used last year in something else).
This Urban Warrior and the below Urban Underground are variations on the same composite. I can see the Warriors profile (above) can you? The Underground made me think of water flowing through a tunnel, thus the title...
I am considering combining these two in such a way as to complete our final project as something surreal. Food for thought?! Do not tell Susan.
Last but not least Urban Sunset. My professor especially liked this one when she found out that the sunset layer came from a clipped portion of an afternoon sun, that I (of course) skewed and distorted, and widened to achieve its effect. It is a total of three photos (two of which were taken in the park on the corner of Prairie near 190th.
Actually everything was photographed in or near my home or the proximate neighborhood. Everything except the ceramic fish, was taken using my new camera, a Kodak EasyShare Max z990. It is a wonderful camera for a beginner, and for the price, I do not think is can be beat. Even has HDR.
